MMVC XI VS Cavaliers 7th June 2003
Catford & Cyphers 201-7 (35 Overs)
MMVC XI 190-7 (35 Overs)
Catford won by 11 runs.
The Cavaliers managed to keep to winning ways with this
excellent win. In that there were 6 players under 18 in the side this is
encouraging for the future of the Club and demonstrates the role that the
Cavaliers is well placed to perform of giving new players a chance to play
competitive cricket
The story of the game was we were inserted by the opposition
in a 35 overs game and made a reasonably quick start but lost 2 wickets, as
both openers were out early. Raja Kumar and Yash Rangineri then came together
batting 3 and 4 and put on 58 in 10 overs (Yash 38). We then lost three quick
wickets and at 92-5 looked vulnerable.
However, 15-year-old Rajakumar and 14-year-old Curtley
Browne in his first game put on 54 runs and played us into a strong position
when Curtley was out on his debut for 17.17-year-old Asam then made a quick 28
and Rajakumar finished unbeaten on 66Not out his maiden 50 for the Club as we
reached 201 off the last ball of the 35th over.
On a fast scoring wicket we gave all our 6 colts a bowl and
4 of them picked up a wicket, Curtley i-17 off 5 overs, aid Asam 1-26 off 5
were the best but Bal 1-24 and Rajakumar 1-16 were only slightly behind. Chris
Wright chipped in with 2 wickets and Richard Coles with one so that Siva found
himself bowling the last over to two bats determined to make the 18 required to
win. Having been outplayed for the whole game by the less experienced Catford
side, justice merited a Catford win. Siva duty delivered an excellent over
conceding only one scoring shot (a massive 6 from an agricultural swing that
connected) and the rest were dot balls for him to finish with 0-38 off 7 overs.
He was deprived of a wicket only by a coat of paint missing from the stumps in
his final over.
This was another excellent team performance and all the side contributed to a well deserved
victory.
