Hartley Country Club 2nd XI vs Catford & Cyphers 2nd XI – 17 May 2003

Not a great effort from the 2nds I’m afraid. A filthy day to play cricket, best forgotten quickly. Further challenges lie ahead let’s focus on them.

There were a few positives, Ro once again demonstrated the orthodox approach that brings its own rewards and his partnership with Dale that included some superb running and excellent shot-making showed what was possible if you were prepared to apply yourself. Brown M bowled accurately and created a number of easy chances that were spurned during a 15 over unchanged spell and I am convinced that had Hassan been present to open the bowling with me and helped plug a few gaps in the field, we would have bowled the opposition out for the 150-170 that was the par score for the pitch and I am convinced we would have chased the total down.

Also, Brown M hit the ball with his bat for the first time this season before being run out by the skipper, maybe next time I bat in the league I will make a run!

The team was as follows: S. Browne, R. Pratap, L. Curling, D. Becker (Wkt), Sasi, R. DeSilva, Hassan Khan, B. Perera, Bala Chandra, J. Gundry-White (Capt). M. Brown

Hartley 251-5 (48.5 overs)
C&CCC 148 all out (41.4 overs)
