CATFORD CYPHERS v HARTLEY COUNTRY CLUB
HARTLEY
87
all out off 40.2 overs
(Page
7 for 33 from 20.2 overs)
89
for 4 from 34.2 overs
(Golbey
31, Sharp 25 not out)
The
Thirds took ‘a step into the unknown’ in their stride with what was a
comfortable victory against Hartley.
The
Skipper won the toss and inserted Hartley on a wicket that gave the home attach
some assistance. Consistent bowling from Andy Page and Anil Udawatta soon
produced results and with spirited support from the field wickets fell
regularly. In effect the Hartley innings was slowly strangled by tight bowling
from Andy Page, Anil and Anthony Benedict and bowling changes were not
required. The statistics will inform the reader that this was a pretty
straightforward league victory but special mention must be made of Andy Page’s
marathon spell which produced his ‘best ever’ career figures.
The
Catford reply began purposefully,James Golbey made a steady 31 but was unlucky
to be judged in front and looked comfortable. Dave Sharp shepherded the team
home in spite of a couple of last minute ‘flutters’which flattered the
opposition.
The
acting Skipper was very pleased with the result especially the attitude and enthusiasm
shown by the bowlers and in the field. Bigger challenges lie ahead for the
supporting bowlers and greater discipline and ‘nous’ will be necessary for us
to bat through our overs and post winning totals, especially batting first.
However,
the was a very satisfying performance ‘first up’.
